Declaration of the Future of the Internet

Australia, the United States and more than 60 partners from around the globe launched the Declaration for the Future of the Internet. This Declaration represents a political commitment among Declaration partners to advance a positive vision for the Internet and digital technologies. It reclaims the promise of the Internet in the face of the global opportunities and challenges presented by the 21st century. It also reaffirms and recommits its partners to a single global Internet – one that is truly open and fosters competition, privacy, and respect for human rights.

Renewed Australia-Papua New Guinea MOU on Cyber Cooperation (2022)

PNG MOU Signing

On 30 March 2022, Dr. Tobias Feakin, Australian Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology, and Mr Steven Matainaho, Secretary of Papua New Guinea's Department of ICT (DICT), signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cyber Cooperation between Australia and PNG.

Australia-UK Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership (2022)

On Thursday, 20 January 2022, Australia and the United Kingdom signed a landmark new Cyber and Critical Tech Partnership in a ceremony hosted by Australia's Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology Tobias Feakin. The Partnership promises to help shape a positive technology environment and maintain an internet that is open, free, peaceful and secure.

Australia-Republic of Korea MOU on a Digital Cooperation Initiative in Southeast Asia

On 13 December 2021, the Prime Minister of Australia, welcomed the President of the Republic of Korea, on a state visit to Australia. Demonstrating an ambition to further deepen and fulfil the potential of a vibrant, modern relationship, the two leaders announced its elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

Leaders further announced they would explore a package of cyber and critical technology initiatives to support Southeast Asia’s digital revolution, and welcomed the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding on a Digital Cooperation Initiative in Southeast Asia.

Australia-Republic of Korea MOU on Cyber and Critical Technology Cooperation (2021)

On 13 September 2021, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the ROK’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on Cyber and Critical Technology Cooperation, on behalf of. The MoU elevates existing cooperation and formalises a regular bilateral Cyber and Critical Technology Policy Dialogue, building on the earlier Cyber Policy Dialogue.

Expanded Australia-Indonesia MOU on Cyber and Emerging Cyber Technology Cooperation (2021)

Australia-Indonesia MoU Signing 2 - Tobias Feakin

On 8 September 2021, during a virtual signing ceremony, Australia and Indonesia signed a refreshed and expanded bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cyber and Emerging Cyber Technology Cooperation.

Australia was represented by Dr. Tobias Feakin, Australian Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology, and Indonesia by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Hinsa Siburian, Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) of Indonesia.

Quad Tech Network (2020)

On 23 December 2020, Foreign Minister Payne announced the establishment of the Quad Tech Network (QTN). The QTN is a Track 2 network of academic and research institutions from Quad countries.  

Managed by the Australian National University’s National Security College, with the support of DFAT, the QTN provides timely research and recommendations by quad partners on the shared challenges facing Australia and Indo-Pacific partners in the cyber and technology environment.

Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership (2020)

The $12.7 million Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership (AICCTP) contributes to Australian Government priorities to promote a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific. The AICCTP complements the Australia-India Framework Arrangement on Cyber and Cyber-Enabled Critical Technology Cooperation as part of the Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership announced during the Leaders’ Virtual Summit on 4 June 2020.

Renewed Australia-Singapore MOU on Cyber Cooperation (2020)

Singapore and Australia have renewed the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cybersecurity cooperation, to further strengthen and expand cooperation and information sharing.

The MOU was signed by Mr David Koh, Chief Executive, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, and Dr Tobias Feakin, Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia.

The MOU will promote cooperation in (a) information exchange and sharing; (b) joint cybersecurity exercises; (c) training to develop awareness and skills; (d) sharing of best practices and promoting innovation; (e) regional confidence-building measures; and (f) regional capacity building.

Australia-Thailand MOU on Cyber Cooperation (2019)

The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, represented by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, and the Government of Australia, represented by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote cooperation in the fields of cyber affairs and the digital economy.

Australia-Indonesia MOU on Cyber Cooperation (2018)

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Government of Australia entered into this Memorandum of Understanding to promote partnerships and provide a framework of cooperation on cyber issues between the Participants.

Australia-Papua New Guinea MOU on Cyber Cooperation

The Government of Papua New Guinea and the Government of Australia (the Participants) are committed to strengthening their enduring economic and security partnership. In the short term, cooperation will contribute towards a safe and successful Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and in the longer term enhance Papua New Guinea's economy and security.

Australia-Singapore MOU on Cyber Cooperation

Singapore and Australia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on strengthening cybersecurity cooperation as part of the 2 Singapore-Australia Leaders’ Summit.

The agreement covers cybersecurity cooperation in key areas including regular information exchanges on cybersecurity incidents and threats, sharing of best practices to promote innovation in cybersecurity, training in cybersecurity skillsets, joint cybersecurity exercises with a focus on the protection of Critical Information Infrastructure as well as collaboration on regional cyber capacity building and confidence building measures.

Both parties also committed to promote voluntary norms of responsible state behaviour in cyberspace. As a first step, both parties will organise an ASEAN cyber-risk reduction workshop at the end of 2017.
